Engineering Ministries International

In 44 days I’ll be making the 20 hour (hopefully) road trip over to Colorado Springs, Colorado to begin serving as an intern through Engineering Ministries International (EMI). EMI is a non-profit Christian development organization made up of architects and engineers who donate their skills to help children and families around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope.  I have long had the interest in practicing engineering with a missions focus and have been familiar with the ministry of EMI since my college days at George Fox University.

I will be joining EMI’s Colorado Springs office on January 17, 2016 to spend the next 4 months working as part of an engineering team redesigning a Christian camp in Trinidad and Tobago.  In order to continue to grow and minister effectively Victory Heights Bible Camp has partnered with EMI to expand and develop their camp property for greater outreach.  As an intern with EMI, I will help to design a new multi-purpose auditorium to seat up to 1,000 as well as survey the existing 30 acre site to develop a master plan for the campus for further growth.

I am very excited to partner with EMI and Victory Heights to put my engineering degree to immediate use impacting a local community while living out my faith.  I am especially thrilled to be part of a team that will be providing for the development and continued ministry of a Christian campground.  Camps are one of the primary places where my own faith came to life, and where my deepest personal growth and relationships were formed.  I grew to love camp as I experienced each exciting new summer at Eagle Fern Camp, and came to discover myself and God’s spirit in profound new ways at the serene beach environment of Twin Rocks Friends Camp while serving on the summer staff.   This last year I had the opportunity to give back to camp ministry as I served as a program intern and co-Summer Staff Coordinator at Twin Rocks.  I am eager now to step full circle to serve Victory Heights in the practical way of designing for its continued development and impact.

As an intern with EMI I will be living with other interns, working in a professional setting within the EMI office, traveling to Trinidad for two weeks to meet ministry leaders and begin our design, and participating in a discipleship program that fosters my development professionally, personally, and spiritually. I plan to use this blog as a place to share pictures and stories of the unique ways I will get to encounter others and serve Jesus as an engineer. I would greatly appreciate your encouragement and support as I take a leap of faith in this new venture and am eager to share with you how this project develops!
